Greetings of Peace and Joy!
Do you remember the old joke about how to get to Carnegie Hall? The laugh was based on not getting street directions, but rather wise guidance for a budding performer, “Practice, practice, practice!”
I’ve often imagined confused disciples asking a similar questions of Jesus, “Rabbi, how can we be your students?” and Jesus replies, “Follow me.” The twelve got out of their boats or walked away from their tax collections and followed. It was a rocky journey, filled with incomprehension, denial, betrayal, anxiety, fear, doubt and even competition.
The odd thing is, Jesus stayed with them and they persisted. We can almost hear them ask again and again, “how do we do this ‘follow you’ thing?” Jesus would have replied, practice, practice, practice.
In a new sermon series, over the next seven weeks, we’ll explore what it takes to follow Jesus. It is titled “7 Covenants of Discipleship.” The series offers seven habits for us to practice that work to enhance our discipleship, our ability to follow Jesus. The covenants are: Pray Daily; Worship Weekly; Study Regularly; Live faithfully; Serve Creatively; Give Generously; Witness Boldly.
Join us in worship as we practice, practice, practice following Jesus.
